- Er war der leitende engl. Stadtplaner (1863-1940) seiner Zeit, der 1896-1914 in Partnerschaft mit Barry Parker das Gartenstadt-Ideal, das Howard entwickelt hatte, in die Realität umsetzte. Die erste Gartenstadt war Letchworth in Hertfordshire (beg. 1903). Darauf folgten Hampstead Garden Suburb in London (beg. 1907) und Wythenshawe bei Manchester (beg. 1927). 1909 erschien erstmals sein Buch „Townplanning in Practice”, das noch heute Gültigkeit besitzt und dessen Zusammenfassung der ersten sechs Kapitel nun folgt.
